We fell in love with Louis Solywoda after we shot him at Palm Beach back in 2019.

If you don’t remember the camel overcoat with shorts or the woolly sheep dog, then I am sure you will remember Louis’s tremendous face which appears to be a sculptural collaboration between several Gods* and a civil engineer. Like something from the Blue Lagoon, Louis is a beautiful man in every regard - kind, generous, innocent, at one with nature. He surfs like a pro, open ocean swims, sings like an angel and only eats meat and fruit.

This time we took James Harvey-Kelly (who else?) to Louis’s home in Hawai’i to once again document the marvel in his habitat, clad in P Johnson’s finest of course. We shot at the infamous Banzai Pipeline, Louis’s local break on the North shore of Oahu, then on the most majestic and heavenly of mother nature’s turf at ‘The Garden Isle’ or Kauai, and finally in the more cosmopolitan side of Hawai’i at ‘The Newt at the Royal’ in Waikiki. James more deftly than ever uncovers the sparkling soul of his subject in our latest series of images “There Is Something About Louis”.

*I’m thinking Poseidon, Devana, Kanaloa and Apollo.
