A.S.O Havana Brown Sunglasses
Our longest project to date has been the design of our perfect sunglasses form. Researching photographs from the 20th century always seemed to produce the most interesting ideas. There was not only more substance and character in their looks back then but more integrity in their build quality. The frames added something to someone, a little power or definition, rather than attempting the fraught design mission of adding nothing and disappearing. Importantly they used harder and visually sharper glass lenses rather than flawed plastic ones which scratch and warp easily. They also had hefty and resilient hinges built to last.
We set to work with the best acetate frame maker in the Veneto and the best family run glass lens maker in the same region. We opted for the best hardware too wishing for a long lived friend rather than a short-lived acquaintance. The result wasn't a single design but two equally strong but very different looking frames. These represent the highest possible quality build for a pair of sunglasses.
A.S.O (in Antique Black or Havana Brown) - Named after Aristotle Onassis and designed in the spirit of his fierce personal style (not of his fierce whaling, shipping and crude oil endeavours). These are a powerful and dynamic look and their deep arms guard glare from the sides so they're great on boats, big boats, ships even. He had lots of ships..
